Barker's D20 by vidthekid Barker's D20 by vidthekid
Instead of numbers from 1 to 20, this d20 features money amounts from 5¢ up to $1.  [Whole surface, flattened]

When I do 3D art, I don't make enough use of low-quality preview renders, because almost every time I go to render, I think it's basically done.  Then I wait for the full render, before thinking of other minor details to add to the scene.  But then I'm often too lazy to actually implement those details, so I focus on even less important things to tweak…  For this one, when I woke up this morning with a completed render I just said ‘screw it, the d20 itself is there; if I focus on the whole room now I'll never finish.’

Nice job.  Just curious: Did this d20 come from your own making -- or was this part of a dice rolling program/app?

Reason I ask: I made SCSD-esque d20 artwork for a dice rolling app for the iPad called MachDice.  I simply replaced the number 1 through 20 with 5¢ through $1 -- using the font that's kinda sorta close to the numbers used on the big wheel.

This was my own work, from scratch. Since then I heard about some research someone did regarding the most equitable arrangement of numbers on a d20 (as well as a d120) and I'll probably use that next time I make a d20.  The arrangement I used on this one was less scientific; I made all pairs of opposite sides add to $1.05, and I made 10¢, 15¢, and 20¢ adjacent to $1 — because those are 3 of the 4 lowest values and the 5¢ had to be on the other side, while on the original wheel 2 of the lowest 3 values are adjacent to the $1 — but besides those rules, the placement was just whatever seemed balanced.
